Cassia can be used alone or with the addition of other coloring / conditioning herbs. Regardless of the selected option, the procedure is the same (in the case of a mixture, it is better to set Cassia apart).

Allergy advice: If you are applying Cassia for the first time, it is best to do an allergic test first (put a little paste on a fragment of the skin and wait. If there is no itching / rash, you can apply the paste to the hair). Before applying the paste to light hair for the first time, it is a good idea to do a color test on a small strand first.

Hair preparation for Cassia:
You should wash your hair thoroughly before applying Cassia. It is good if the shampoo contains strong detergents. On the other hand, silicones, quaternium and its derivatives and film-forming substances are not recommended! Hair should be cleaned of impurities and remnants of cosmetics that could prevent the dye from binding to the hair’s keratin. If you have hard water and the shampoo with which you washed your hair before applying the mixture did not contain Tetrasodium EDTA or Disodium EDTA, you can additionally chelate your hair with a self-made chelating mask that will remove mineral deposits built up on the hair (they reduce the durability of cassiation effects). The easiest solution is to stock up on EDTA shampoo (for cassiating / henning).

Cassia preparation:
It is best to mix powdered cassia with boiled / distilled water at a temperature of about 50-60 degrees C. Add an acidifying additive (Cassia likes acidic pH). The mixed paste should have the consistency of a thick cream. Put the paste in a warm place (protect it from cooling too quickly) for 12-24 hours. After this time, the paste is ready to be applied. You can add color enhancing accessories or combine Cassia with a henna mixture.
Cassia is best applied to freshly washed, drained hair. Cover the head with a plastic foil, and warm towel, to help keep the temperature. The time of keeping cassia on your head is from 2 hours up (depending on the effect you want to achieve). After this time, wash the mixture from your hair. It’s best to dip your head in a bowl of water first. You can replace the water in the bowl 2-3 times, then it will be easier to remove the remnants of herbs from the hair. After cassiating, it is good to refrain from washing your hair and applying cosmetics on the hair for the next 48 hours. Thanks to this, effect will be more long-lasting.
